About Us
The origin of the School of Cultural heritage goes back to department of history established in 1937, and assumed School of Cultural and Museology in 1988. It was renamed present name in 2006. During past seventy years, many distinguished scholars such as Huang Wenbi, Ma Changshou, Chen Zhi, Zhou Weizhou, had been teaching here. Now, high-quality teaching staffs (including ten professors) have gained outstanding achievements in their teaching practice and academic research, and most of them received the doctoral degree.
There are two majors, archaeology (including discipline of Cultural Heritage Management) and Preservation Technology for Cultural heritage in the School. It has history first-level discipline to award a doctoral degree program, master degree programs and a center for post-doctoral studies and also offers undergraduate degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees. A national talent training base for Archaeology and Museology is established in the School.
There is a National Demonstration Centre for Experimental Teaching (Demonstration Center for Conservation for Cultural Heritage) in the School. The School also has a Provincial Continuing Education Innovate Centre for Archaeology and a Provincial teaching team. The Two majors, Archaeology and Preservation Technology for Cultural heritage have been honored as excellent and characteristic major by Shaanxi Province, and Archaeology is entitled in the National Characteristic Specialty. There are different level of Elaborate Courses, 2 National Programs, 3 Provincial Programs and 4 University discipline Programs. One of the staff is honored provincial outstanding teacher, and many teaching achievements are awarded national and provincial reward.
The School has outstanding teaching and research platform for an unparalleled range of archaeological and preservation research, including a Key Laboratory(key Laboratory of Cultural Heritage Conservation and Research, Ministry of Education,) and Provincial Key Lab(Cultural Heritage Preservation and archaeological research Centre), a Key Base (Key base of Cultural Property Preservation for Bricks and Stones material, State Administration of Cultural Heritage), a Centre(Center of Conservation Plan of Cultural Heritage, Northwest University and Shaanxi Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage), two provincial key disciplines(archaeology and Preservation Technology for Cultural Heritage)and a provincial characteristic discipline(archaeology) 。
The School has facilities for teaching and research, a multimedia classroom, a laboratory for cultural heritage preservation and archaeology, a computes’ classroom. Twenty thousand cultural properties and teaching samples have been collected by The School Museum. The Library supports the taught programmers offered by the School and provides research material on a wide variety of topics covering all aspects of archaeology, museum studies and conservation of cultural heritage.
The School located in the famous ancient Chinese capital Xi’an where is rich in cultural resources. To utilize these resources, the School cooperates with more than ten cultural heritage institutes that are teaching and practice base, located in Shaanxi Province and Northwest Region. Now the School is responsible for the training and education of carders for cultural heritage institute. The School focuses on not only teaching, but also researching. Graduate with solid foundation, broad knowledge are capable of proceeding comprehensive research. The School has cultivated a large number of archaeological and preservation talents and achieves remarkable success.
